Comparing Direct Demand Models for Estimating Pedestrian Volumes at Intersections and Their Spatial Transferability to Other Jurisdictions

چکیده

Direct demand (DD) models are used to estimate pedestrian volumes at intersections as a function of readily available variables, such land use and socioeconomic features. The objectives this paper are: (1) identify qualitatively assess existing DD in the literature; (2) evaluate spatial transferability for estimating annual average daily traffic (AADPT) signalized intersections. Six developed from jurisdictions with varying characteristics were selected assessment. applied three (Milton, Canada; Pima County, U.S.; Downtown Toronto, Canada) that had notable differences level activity, use, socioeconomics. Observed obtained sites each jurisdiction. performed considerably differently across jurisdictions. Five reasonably well Milton, jurisdiction is comparable those considered calibration shares many suburban Canadian U.S. Overall, applications County which have extremely low high volumes, respectively, provided poor accuracy. This demonstrated potential transferring other jurisdictions; but also identified clear need further research improve models.

Estimating Pedestrian Volumes and Crashes at Urban Signalized Intersections

Crash prediction models are used to estimate the number of crashes using a set of explanatory variables. The highway safety community has used modeling techniques to predict vehicle-to-vehicle crashes for decades. Specifically, generalized linear models (GLMs) are commonly used because they can model non-linear count data such as motor vehicle crashes. Regression models such as the Poisson, Zer...

Transferable Pedestrian Motion Prediction Models at Intersections

One desirable capability of autonomous cars is to accurately predict the pedestrian motion near intersections for safe and efficient trajectory planning. We are interested in developing transfer learning algorithms that can be trained on the pedestrian trajectories collected at one intersection and yet still provide accurate predictions of the trajectories at another, previously unseen intersec...

Calibration and Transferability of Accident Prediction Models for Urban Intersections

Accident prediction models, also known as safety performance functions, have several important uses in modern day safety analysis. Unfortunately, calibration of these models is not straightforward. This paper documents a research effort that demonstrates the complexity of calibrating these models for urban intersections. These complexities relate to the specification of the functional form, the...

Priority Order for Improvement of Intersections using Pedestrian Crash Prediction Model

One of the most important needs of pedestrians is safety at crossing points, especially at intersections. Intersections are important parts of the urban road network because any disruption in them reduces the capacity of the entire network. The main objective of this research is to propose an appropriate method for prioritizing urban intersections with considering the important factors affectin...
